The Groves, Chester
a Soulful Saturday in our ‘Finding Hope’ series
with Iona Reid-Dalglish
We are living in unusual times, with the COVID pandemic just the most recent in what can feel like a long line of crises. Some have been calling this time ‘The Great Pause’ – a 'liminal' space, a threshold, that offers us a moment to stop, breathe, reflect and re-frame. Here in this pause, we can choose to practise hope, a hope that is active and engaged with the messy state of the world. This active hope isn’t about naive optimism: it is “waking up to the beauty of life on whose behalf we can act” (Joanna Macy).
During this workshop, we will seek to open up and begin to explore together:
• our own personal experiences of this time of enforced slowing and re-framing – reflecting on the challenges and the opportunities that seem to be presenting themselves in our immediate contexts
• how this particular and exceptional moment in our global human experience might relate to greater transformational movements – into a future which will be sustainable for the planet and life-giving for all members of the life-community on earth
• creative ways of inhabiting liminal spaces and times
The workshop will include a mix of input, opportunity for personal reflection and small group conversation as part of an interactive whole group experience.
Iona Reid-Dalglish is a spirituality worker in the North West, and one of our retreat guides at RHC, in the business of tending to signs of life, whether that be in the garden or in people's lived experience. She facilitates opportunities for individuals and groups to engage with what it might mean to be human and alive today.
