Why Meditation Matters: with Fr Laurence Freeman

the River Dee in Chester

the River Dee in Chester

Join us for a special Retreat House Chester Soulful Saturday in a remarkable and challenging year - to explore meditation and why it matters, with Fr Laurence Freeman OSB, monk, teacher and Director of The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) a global, inclusive contemplative community.   He now resides at Bonnevaux, the WCCM international home in France, a centre for peace where meditation is practised and taught as a way to personal and organisational transformation. We are delighted that, despite restrictions changing the original plan for this event, Fr Laurence can still be with us in Chester for this day now on Zoom.

Fr Laurence writes: In the corona crisis a powerful light has been shone upon the even greater crisis of our time that humanity faces. In such a time it is not only ideas or policies that matter but a new way of observing reality and of seeing what is real. This is the contemplative consciousness that releases wisdom and influences all dimensions of experience. If Christianity is to contribute its unique and universal vision of wisdom it must become more confidently and explicitly a contemplative religious force. This is not mere abstraction but a matter of life. That is why practising and teaching meditation in the Christian tradition matters. How do we become a contemplative Church?
